Facts on Friday

Fact #1
It takes a REALLY long time to cut tumblers
using a plastic acrylic template.

Fact #2
Vintage fabric makes a good jumping OFF place
for any kind of scrap quilt.

This quilt began with vintage
and ended with whatever I could find
that kind of blended in!

Fact #3
Hand me downs + STASH = FREE quilt

Little bits and pieces

I can't seem to leave my little squares alone!

I made a little tiny..
Itsy bitsy...
quilt.

A picnic quilt.
;)

The dolls at my house are happy folk today.
They haven't ever had a HOMEMADE quilt!

1 1/2" squares were used.
I did not use batting.
After joining all the squares together
I added the backing pillowcase fashion
and slip stitched the edge closed.
I added little pink ties in all the corners.
It measures 4"x 5"

The dolls are all in a dither.....
trying to figure out who gets to use it FIRST!

All Squared Up

Little tiny squares too precious to toss...
1 1/2" unfinished....
make lovely pincushions.

They also work for coasters.

2 1/2" squares that were GOING to be a simple table topper
are NOW in line to be a new seat cover in MY SEWING ROOM.
:)

Can you see that little square RIGHT above my watermark???
An OLD, old piece that says I LOVE YOU!

Oooh! I love little scraps of fabric!

LOTS of little squares!!!
FOUR different sizes here wait to be chosen.

Berry basket was made using THIS method...
but a bigger size.

Don't be fooled.
I have little DRAWERS for every size.
This only represents the CURRENT bits and pieces I've cut
out of leftovers as I go along.

A simple table topper to add to my GROWING
stack of  auction items.
This one needs some hand quilting...
Don't you think???

Monday Making

It's Monday!
What are you working on this week?
There's a link up today if you want to share!
:)

I'm plotting and planning.

Two more quilts to go for the graduating high school seniors
and a SEWING DAY Friday
with friends to get some done!

I now have a plan.
All I have to do is WAIT.
Waiting is the hardest part.

Top quilt will be modern and yellow.

This quilt will use up some more SCRAPS!

I will NEVER run out of those!!

It's for a boy.
I think making a quilt for a boy...
a teenage boy...
Is the hardest kind of quilt to make!!!

Your turn.
Are you in the middle of something fun?
Does not have to be quilting.
Maybe you're trying a new recipe?

Friday Finish

I was able to sew this week!
Digging through scraps and sewing little strips together
suits me JUST fine.
;)

This little vintage strip here is really the inspiration for the whole quilt.
That  ONE little tiny, PRECIOUS scrap
DROVE this quilt.
LOVE all that color.

Mid week....when I was working away at sewing strips together
I recieved another LITTLE bunch of vintage fabric
and it contained JUST the RIGHT blue
to fill this quilt out.

BELIEVE it or NOT...
I have PLENTY of fabric here...
but cutting into yardage kind of defeats the purpose
in a little scrap quilt like this!

Crazy logic???

This polka dot backing is just perfect.
I'm a frugal quilter.
This polka dot was a sheet in it's former life.
OOOh!
I love giving cotton fabric a second LIFE!!

Strips/strings used in this quilt were 10" tall
and in the top row they are 7" tall.
You might also notice I pieced some strings.
Can't let ANYTHING go to waste!
:)

Quilt measures 40"x44"

Have a great weekend friends!

Monday Making

Little orphans are becoming
Little quilts at my house these days.

I received quite a few orphan blocks
a couple of years ago (has it been that long???)
and I'm STILL working at getting them
Finished UP!

Most of them became charity quilts...
but I few blocks didn't quite FIT in.
These little quilts will be part of an auction.

They will be the centerpieces at a retreat/conference.
We'll eat our meals around these pretty little quilts.
:)
Thanks go to all the SWEET quilters
who sent me these lovely gems.

My goal is 12.
I'm up to 6
and I have until April.
Yeah! I think I"ll make it in plenty of time!
Although.....as you can see....
these guys are not DONE!
Knowing ME....
I'll wait until the very last minute to get the bindings on.
At that point I will have to DIG again to FIND
the right fabric!!!!
LOL!

I love all of them!
These table toppers would also make GREAT doll quilts!

Some of these little quilts are STRETCHING me.
I learned how to add PRAIRIE points!!!
It's always a good thing to LEARN something new.
;)

This is for when I'm NOT at the sewing machine.
I'll make a little progress today while I sit
and watch Downton Abbey on PBS...  :)

The kids have been wearing the HATS I gave them for Christmas!
Made me want to make some MORE.
;)

Patchwork Pillow

This pillow happened because I wanted to do something with ties.

I envisioned a QUILT...
but one thing led to another...
and it became a pillow instead!

I love it.

I STILL might make that QUILT I was dreaming about....
:)

This pillow used some old ties,
Some old gray cotton I had on hand
and
it includes lots of hand stitching!

LOVE using UP.
LOVE hand stitching.
LOVE small projects.

Monday making

I needed something new.....and small....to hand quilt.
I found it!!
My bag of old ties got some sunshine today. Isn't it a great feeling to use old unwanted fabric to CREATE???
The fun decision now is black or red perle cotton?????
Both?????
This little quilt will probably become a pillow. ;)

Stripe love

Pulled out some old quilt blocks today. Thinking about making a few more....
This is just another quilt top of mine that grows slowly!!
A few blocks every couple of YEARS. ;)
Someday.....it'll be a quilt.

Monday

Hand Quilting usually takes me a long time.
It doesn't happen when I'm at HOME!

It happens when I'm in the car...
or sitting in waiting rooms...
or confined in a meeting...  :)

This sweet baby quilt, FILLED with little pieces of
someone ELSE's leftovers, is now D.O.N.E.
Thanks to a VERY long car trip.

I didn't wait to add some binding!
I added it the VERY night we got home!
Hah!
Guess I was missing my sewing machine!

This baby quilt is small.
I pieced it about 6 years ago on ANOTHER family trip.
I was forced to USE WHAT I HAD!!

That's ONE thing I LOVE about quilting.
USING UP.
Not letting ONE little scrap go to waste!
Especially when they're CUTE little scraps.

This is a REAL use it UP quilt!
The little strips came to me in a small baggie.
OOooh! I LOVE little bags of SCRAPS!!!

Here's my NEXT "use it UP" quilt!!!
Also known as
DUMP and SEW!

Soft scraps.
Some SUPER sweet little baby prints!

Another quilt has BEGUN!!!
